Changing the Game: Creating a High-Performing Mindset in Our Kids - Evening
Conventional wisdom holds that youth sports are a positive experience for our children, yet 70% of children drop out of organized athletics by the age of 13. Youth sports has become an ultra-competitive, adult centered enterprise that has taken the “play” out of “Play ball” or far too many kids, but we can change that. In this talk, you will learn:
3 Ways to Change Your Kids Sports Experience for the Better
How To Motivate Your Kids to Take Ownership for Sports
How to Help, and not Hinder, Their Performance Through the Things You Say and Do
Sponsored by Dover-Sherborn Challenge Success
8:15 a.m., Chickering Elementary (Cafeteria)
7 p.m., Dover-Sherborn High/Middle School Auditorium (Lindquist Commons)

John started the Changing the Game Project in 2012 after two decades as a soccer player and coach on the youth, high school, college and professional level. He is the author of three #1 bestselling books, Changing the Game: The Parents Guide to Raising Happy, High Performing Athletes, and Giving Youth Sports Back to our Kids (2013), Every Moment Matters: How the World’s Best Coaches Inspire Their Athletes and Build Championship Teams (2019), and The Champion Teammate: Timeless Lessons to Connect, Compete and Lead in Sports and Life (2023). His new book The Champion Sports Parent will be released in early Oct.
John’s work has been featured by CNN, Outside Magazine, ESPN, NBC Sports and numerous other media entities. John is an internationally known speaker for coaches, parents and youth sports organizations, and has spoken for TEDx, the US Olympic Committee, US Soccer, USA Wrestling, USA Swimming, US Ski and Snowboard, Ireland Rugby, Australian Rugby League and at numerous schools and coaching conferences throughout the US, Canada, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Europe. John has also worked with coaches and teams on leadership and team culture development at universities such as Rutgers, Ohio State, Fordham, Xavier, University of San Francisco, and Colby College.
When he speaks, John brings to the table a wealth of practical, hands-on knowledge garnered through years of working with players and their families on sport specific development, parenting, coaching, and creating a player-centered environment.
